Copy-and-Change a Sentence

Name:
Date:

Today I am practising: changing one sentence part while preserving a complete structure

1

Copy The dog runs in the yard. Change dog to cat.

2

Copy I read at home. Change home to school.

3

Copy The bird sings. Change sings to flies.

4

Circle what changed in: We play outside. / We play inside.

5

Write a new sentence by changing one part of The child draws at a desk.

6

Tell an adult which part you changed and how the meaning changed.

Grown-up guide
  1. Read the original and changed sentences side by side before the child writes.
  2. Name the part being changed—who, action, or where—so the child has a clear constraint.
  3. Check that the new sentence still begins with a capital and ends with a period.
