Pre-K Make Your Own AB Pattern

Name:
Date:

Today I am practising: creating and explaining an original two-part pattern

1

Draw circle, square, circle, square, circle, square.

2

Use two crayons to make a six-place color AB pattern.

3

Choose two motions and perform your pattern three times.

4

Make an AB pattern with stickers or drawn shapes for an adult to finish.

5

Write or dictate the names of your two repeating parts.

6

Ask an adult to point to the next part. Tell them whether they are right.

Grown-up guide
  1. Limit choices to two materials so creating does not become a sorting task.
  2. Ask the child to say the two-part repeat before adding the third repetition.
  3. Celebrate a pattern only after it repeats at least three times; then invite the child to explain it.
