1st Grade Reading Response: Fact, Wonder, and Learn

Name:
Date:

Today I am practising: asking and answering questions about informational text

1

Write the topic of the book or article.

2

Draw and label one fact you learned.

3

Finish the sentence: 'I learned that ___. '

4

Write or dictate one wonder: 'I wonder ___. '

5

Look back at the text or picture. Can you find an answer to your wonder? Mark the page or draw the clue.

6

Tell an adult one new word from the text and what you think it means.

Grown-up guide
  1. Use an informational text with one clear topic, such as an animal, weather, or a simple how-to book.
  2. Separate a fact from a question orally before asking the child to record either one.
  3. If the text does not answer the wonder, celebrate the question and label it 'find out later' instead of forcing an answer.
