Repeat a Measurement

Today I am practising: using repeated trials to describe variation

1

Build a low cardboard ramp with adult help. Choose a toy car and mark one starting point.

2

Release the car without pushing. Measure how far it travels beyond the ramp with same-size blocks.

3

Repeat from the same start. Record a second distance.

4

Repeat once more. Record a third distance.

5

Which distance was greatest and which was smallest? Describe the difference.

6

Name one reason the distances might vary and one thing to keep steady next time.

Grown-up guide
  1. Keep the floor clear and the ramp low.
  2. Use the same blocks laid end to end with no gaps.
  3. Record variation honestly instead of changing numbers to match.
