Pre-K Extend an AB Pattern

Name:
Date:

Today I am practising: predicting the next part of a two-part repeating pattern

1

Circle, square, circle, square, __, __, __. Fill the next three places.

2

Red, blue, red, blue, __, __. Color the next two boxes.

3

Clap, stomp, clap, stomp, __, __. Do the next two motions.

4

Big dot, little dot, big dot, little dot, __, __. Draw what comes next.

5

Make an AB pattern of four objects. Leave two spaces for an adult to extend.

6

Tell an adult the two parts that repeat in your favorite row.

Grown-up guide
  1. Have the child point back to the first two parts rather than guessing from the last item alone.
  2. Ask the child to say the next item before drawing or placing it.
  3. Keep the extension short so the child is predicting a repeat, not counting a long sequence.
