Choose Reasons That Support an Opinion

Name:
Date:

Today I am practising: distinguishing supporting reasons from unrelated details

1

Opinion: A park is a good place to play. Choose a reason: it has space to run / my pencil is blue.

2

Write another reason that supports playing at a park.

3

Opinion: Reading with a partner is helpful. Explain how a partner could help.

4

Cross out the unrelated reason: I like drawing because I can create pictures and because Tuesday comes after Monday.

5

Choose a favorite classroom activity. Write your opinion and one matching reason.

6

Add a different second reason. Check that it supports the same opinion.

Grown-up guide
  1. Read an opinion and ask which reason would help a listener understand it.
  2. Distinguish a second idea from the same reason restated.
  3. Accept different opinions when their reasons connect logically.
