Make Pronouns Clear

Name:
Date:

Today I am practising: matching pronouns to a clear noun reference

1

Replace the second Maya: Maya has a kite. Maya runs with it.

2

Replace the repeated dogs: The dogs are wet. The dogs shake their fur.

3

Read: Leo called Ben because he needed help. Name two people he could mean.

4

Rewrite the Leo and Ben sentence so the reader knows Ben needed help.

5

Use it in a second sentence about a toy. Make sure the toy is named first.

6

Read your toy sentences to an adult. Ask what it refers to.

Grown-up guide
  1. Introduce only pronouns that the learner understands.
  2. Treat ambiguous examples as questions about the reader's understanding.
  3. Use a person's name when a pronoun would leave two possible meanings.
