Pre-K Pattern Partner Sort

Name:
Date:

Today I am practising: sorting items by whether they can continue a given AB pattern

1

For red, blue, red, sort blue and yellow under can continue or cannot continue.

2

For circle, square, circle, sort square and triangle.

3

For clap, tap, clap, sort tap and clap for the next spot.

4

For big, little, big, sort little and medium.

5

Draw one candidate that can continue your own AB pattern and one that cannot.

6

Tell an adult why one candidate does not belong.

Grown-up guide
  1. Keep the model visible while the child sorts each pair.
  2. Ask 'What should the next part be?' before naming either candidate.
  3. After sorting, place the correct candidate into the row to make the answer concrete.
