Turn or Slide, Keep the Shape

Name:
Date:

Today I am practising: recognizing properties preserved by movement

1

Draw a small triangle on scrap paper and cut it out with adult help. Count the vertices.

2

Trace it, slide it to a new position and trace again.

3

Turn the cutout and trace a third time.

4

Compare the number of sides in all three traces.

5

Did sliding or turning change the triangle's size? Explain.

6

Draw an arrow showing one slide and a curved arrow showing one turn.

Grown-up guide
  1. Use blunt scissors with adult help or a ready-cut triangle.
  2. Keep the cutout flat while tracing.
  3. Compare the same corners across traces rather than relying on 'pointing up'.
